OpusClip is an AI tool that turns long videos into short clips. You give it a YouTube video, webinar or podcast, and it picks the strongest moments, reframes them to vertical, adds captions and scores each clip. You can then post or schedule the clips to YouTube Shorts and other networks. There is a free plan, and paid plans start at $14.50 a month billed yearly.
The company writes the name as one word, OpusClip, though many people still search for Opus Clip.
Who is OpusClip for?
OpusClip suits marketing teams, agencies and podcasters that already publish long videos and want more reach from Shorts without editing every clip by hand. It is a repurposing tool, not a full video editor.
How does OpusClip turn a long video into Shorts?
Finding the clips
You paste a link or upload a video of up to 10 hours. Paid plans accept more link sources, such as Google Drive, Zoom, StreamYard, Riverside and Loom. ClipAnything analyses speech, visuals and sentiment to find moments, and you can steer it with a prompt, a clip length or a time range. On paid plans each clip gets a Virality Score from 0 to 99, based on its hook, flow, value and fit with trends.
Reframing and captions
AI Reframe tracks the speaker or subject and crops the clip to vertical 9:16; Pro adds square and 16:9. Animated captions work in more than 20 languages, and brand templates keep your logo, fonts and caption style consistent.
Auto Import from YouTube
On Starter and Pro, OpusClip can pick up each new public video on your channel longer than 3 minutes, or only videos in chosen playlists. It either emails you or clips the video automatically, using credits for its full length.
Posting and scheduling
Starter posts straight to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. Pro adds a calendar to schedule posts to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky, with AI-written titles, descriptions and hashtags. OpusClip's help centre says you must connect YouTube with the Google account that owns the channel; a manager of a Brand Account channel cannot connect it. Pro also exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, so an editor can finish the clips.
How much does OpusClip cost?
Prices checked on 1 November 2026 on OpusClip's pricing page, in US dollars:
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 60 a month |
| Starter | Not offered | $15 a month | 150 a month |
| Pro, 1 pack | $14.50 a month ($174 a year) | $29 a month | 300 a month |
| Business | Custom | Custom | Custom |
One credit processes one minute of the original video, whatever the number of clips. Monthly credits last 60 days; yearly credits arrive at once and last 12 months. A Pro pack includes 2 seats, and extra packs add credits and seats. Pro billed yearly costs less per month than Starter, but you pay for the year up front. The 7-day Pro trial needs no credit card, but trial clips carry a watermark and cannot be posted.
What do users say about OpusClip?
OpusClip is rated 4.6 out of 5 on G2 from about 120 reviews. Reviewers most often praise the time it saves, the animated captions and the value for the price.
The most common complaint is that the AI's choice of clips is hit or miss, so clips still need manual trimming. Others mention slow rendering at busy times and few caption styles. On Trustpilot, negative reviews focus on billing, renewals and slow support.
When should you choose an alternative?
- You need to edit the full video too. A text-based editor such as Descript includes clip creation next to full editing.
- Your team already schedules posts in one place. Buffer schedules YouTube Shorts with your other posts, so Starter may be enough.
- You record live shows. StreamYard includes AI clips on its paid plans.

OpusClip FAQ
Does OpusClip have a free plan?
Yes. The free plan gives 60 credits a month, enough for about 60 minutes of video. Clips carry a watermark, cannot be edited and can only be exported for 3 days. A 7-day Pro trial needs no credit card and turns into the free plan when it ends.
How do OpusClip credits work?
One credit processes one minute of the original video, however many clips you get. You can lower the cost by processing only part of a video. Monthly credits expire after 60 days, and yearly plans get the whole year's credits at once, valid for 12 months.
Can OpusClip post Shorts to a company YouTube channel?
It can post and schedule Shorts, but OpusClip's help centre says you must connect with the Google account that owns the channel. If you are only a manager of a Brand Account channel, OpusClip cannot connect to it.
