Notion and Airtable both let teams build their own systems without code, but they start from different places. Notion is a workspace for docs and wikis with databases built in. Airtable is a relational database with a spreadsheet-like grid, plus interfaces, automations and AI on top. Choose Notion if most of your work is written and your data is simple. Choose Airtable if your data is the work and needs to stay clean as it grows.
What is the main difference between Notion and Airtable?
In Notion, the page comes first. Pages are built from blocks, such as text, images, tables and embeds, and nest into a team wiki. Databases live inside that workspace and show items as tables, boards, calendars, timelines or charts. Relations link items across databases, and rollups summarise the linked data, for example adding up what each customer has spent.
In Airtable, the data comes first. Every column is a typed field, from nearly 30 types including attachments, currency, dates, barcodes, formulas, lookups and rollups. Linked records connect tables so information is entered once and shown wherever it is related. The same table can show as a grid, form, calendar, gallery, Kanban board, list, timeline or Gantt chart, and Interface Designer builds dashboards and simple app screens for people who should not edit raw data.
How do Notion and Airtable compare on price?
Prices below are in US dollars per seat per month. Notion's prices and Airtable's annual prices were checked on 1 November 2026; Airtable's monthly prices were checked on 31 October 2026.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Notion Free / Airtable Free | $0 | $0 |
| Notion Plus | $10 | $12 |
| Notion Business | $20 | $24 |
| Airtable Team | $20 | $24 |
| Airtable Business | $45 | $54 |
| Enterprise (both) | Custom | Custom |
Notion is half the price at entry level, and Notion Business costs the same as Airtable Team. Two billing details change the maths. Airtable charges only for people who can edit a base, so read-only collaborators, form submissions and share links are free. Airtable also sells Portals for external guests as an add-on, from $120 for 15 guests per month on Team.
Airtable's plans set clear usage limits. Team allows 50,000 records per base and 25,000 automation runs a month, and Business 125,000 records and 100,000 runs. Each plan also includes AI credits: 15,000 per paid user a month on Team and 20,000 on Business. In Notion, the full AI features, including Notion Agent, Custom Agents and AI Meeting Notes, need the Business plan.
Which is easier to set up?
Both are blank canvases, and both draw learning-curve complaints on G2. For Notion, the learning curve is the most common complaint, and its ease of setup score (8.2 out of 10) is lower than its score for meeting requirements (8.8). For Airtable, reviewers mention a learning curve with formulas and large datasets.
The skills differ. Notion asks you to design pages and databases. Airtable asks you to think more like a database designer: which tables you need, how they link and which field types to use. Even so, Airtable reviewers most often praise how easy it is to use.
Which has the better free plan?
Airtable's, for a small team. It allows up to 5 editors, unlimited bases, 1,000 records and 1 GB of attachments per base, 100 automation runs and 500 AI credits per editor a month. A new account's first workspace also gets a 14-day trial of Team.
Notion's Free plan is aimed at individuals. A single-member workspace can add as many pages and blocks as it likes, but block storage is limited once two or more members join, uploads are capped at 5 MB and page history lasts 7 days. Notion's pricing page shows no time-limited trial of paid plans.
Which works better for marketing teams?
Airtable suits marketing operations. A campaign can link to its content pieces, each piece to its author and channel, and the team can see the same data as a calendar by publish date or a Kanban board by status. Interfaces give managers a dashboard without access to the raw tables, and automations can move work along when a record is added or a status changes.
Notion suits marketing teams whose work is mostly written: campaign briefs, content calendars, onboarding guides and meeting notes. The brief and the content calendar live in the same workspace, and pages can be published as a simple website.
Which works better for sales teams?
Neither is a full CRM. Airtable is the stronger base for sales data: lead lists with typed fields, Kanban views by stage, and integrations with tools such as Salesforce, with two-way sync on Business. Notion is the better home for sales knowledge, such as playbooks and onboarding guides, and its databases can track a small pipeline.
If you need pipelines, email tracking and forecasting, a dedicated CRM such as HubSpot CRM or Pipedrive gets you there faster.
What do users say about Notion and Airtable?
Both hold 4.6 out of 5 on G2: Notion from about 14,000 reviews and Airtable from more than 3,300. Notion reviewers praise ease of use and range of features. Airtable reviewers praise ease of use, automations, versatility and customisation, and complain about limited integrations and pricing, including the cost of essential features. These ratings were checked on 31 October 2026.
The bottom line
Choose Notion if your team needs a wiki, docs and light project tracking in one place at a lower price per seat. Choose Airtable if you run structured operations, such as content inventories, campaign tracking or lead lists, that need linked tables, interfaces and heavy automation.
