Ubersuggest is an SEO tool for finding keywords, studying competitors, auditing your site and tracking rankings. You type a keyword or a domain into the search bar, and it returns search volume, difficulty, keyword ideas, ranking pages and backlinks. It is run by NP Digital, the agency co-founded by Neil Patel, and it now also tracks how AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini talk about your brand.
It is built for people doing SEO on their own sites: founders, small businesses, freelancers and small marketing teams. Below is what each main report does and how to use it. For plans and pricing, see our Ubersuggest tool page.
How does Ubersuggest work?
Ubersuggest combines a keyword database (the vendor says more than 2.2 billion keywords), a backlink index and a site crawler. You start in one of two ways:
- Enter a keyword to see how often it is searched, how hard it is to rank for, and which related terms and pages exist.
- Enter a domain to see a site's estimated organic and paid traffic, its top pages, the keywords it ranks for and its backlinks.
If you set up a project for your own site, Ubersuggest adds a dashboard with a site audit, rank tracking and a prioritised list of next actions.
Keyword overview: is this keyword worth targeting?
The keyword overview is the first screen for any keyword. It shows:
- Search volume: the estimated number of monthly searches.
- SEO difficulty: an estimate of how hard it is to rank in organic results. Lower means less competition.
- Paid difficulty: an estimate of competition among search ads.
- Cost per click: the average price advertisers pay per click, a useful signal of commercial value. See cost per click.
- Intent: whether searchers want to learn, compare or buy.
Treat every volume figure as an estimate. Even Google says Keyword Planner volume is a rounded average over 12 months, and that seasons and current events move it. Third-party tools model their numbers on top of that. Use volume and difficulty to compare keywords with each other, not to predict exact traffic.
Keyword ideas: what else should the page cover?
One page rarely ranks for one keyword. The keyword ideas report expands a seed term in five ways:
- Autocomplete: what people type after your keyword.
- Related: terms with a similar meaning.
- Questions: "how", "what" and "why" searches.
- Prepositions: phrases with "for", "with", "without" and similar.
- Comparisons: "vs" and "or" searches.
Export each list and pick a few terms from each group. Questions make good headings and FAQ entries. Comparisons often point to separate pages. Most of these will be long-tail keywords with lower volume but clearer intent.
A newer report, AI Prompt Ideas, lists the questions people ask AI assistants in your category. It is useful if you want your content to answer the prompts buyers type into ChatGPT, not only Google searches.

Content ideas: what already ranks?
Content Ideas shows the pages that perform best for a keyword, with their estimated visits and social engagement. Use it before you write:
- Look at the format that wins: a list, a how-to, a tool page or a comparison.
- Check how many backlinks the top pages have. If they all have hundreds of linking domains, a new page will need links too. Our guide to building backlinks explains why.
- Note the subtopics every top page covers, then cover them better.
Paid plans and the trial also include Content Studio, which turns a chosen keyword into an article draft with title suggestions and an image. Treat the draft as a starting point and add your own expertise and examples.
Traffic analyzer: what is driving a competitor's traffic?
Enter a competitor's domain to see estimated organic and paid traffic over time, the keywords bringing in the most visits, and its highest-traffic pages. The keyword gap report lists terms your competitors rank for and you don't.
This is where B2B teams often find quick wins: comparison pages, integration pages and glossary terms that a rival ranks for but you never wrote. Pair it with the backlink report, which shows new and lost links and the domains that link to rivals but not to you. For more tools, see the best tools to find competitor backlinks.
Site audit and SEO opportunities: what should you fix first?
Once you add your site as a project, Ubersuggest crawls it in the background and lists errors, warnings and suggested fixes. Crawl limits depend on the plan. The SEO Opportunities view turns the findings into a ranked list of quick wins, content gaps and code fixes.
Start with issues that stop pages from being crawled or indexed, then slow pages, then duplicate titles and descriptions. Our guide on how to perform a technical SEO audit covers the order in more detail.
Rank tracking and AI search visibility
Rank tracking shows daily positions for your chosen keywords by location and language, including mobile. Pixel rank tracking adds how far down the page your result actually appears, which matters when ads and AI answers push organic results lower.
The AI Search Visibility dashboard tracks a set of prompts in AI assistants and reports how often your brand is mentioned, which competitors appear next to you, and how each engine describes you. Which engines you get depends on the plan.
Does Ubersuggest have a Chrome extension?
Yes. Ubersuggest lists a Google Chrome extension alongside a WordPress plugin, a ChatGPT app and an MCP connection for AI tools such as Claude and Cursor. Read more in our article on the Ubersuggest Chrome extension.
Is Ubersuggest worth it?
It depends on how much data you need.
- Free plan: good for occasional lookups. Ubersuggest describes it as a plan for light research.
- Paid plans: on 31 October 2026 the pricing page showed monthly plans from $29 to $99 (shown in local currency, such as euros in Europe), with yearly and one-time lifetime options. Limits rise with each plan, from 150 to 900 reports per day and from 1 to 15 projects. Monthly plans have a one-time 7-day free trial. Lifetime purchases are non-refundable.
- What's missing: there is no public API, and the vendor's FAQ says the backlink tool has no toxic-link scoring or disavow workflow.
If you need the biggest backlink and keyword indexes, or a team workflow with many users, compare it with larger suites. Our Ubersuggest vs Semrush comparison and our list of the best tools for keyword research are good next reads.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ubersuggest free?
Partly. Ubersuggest offers a free plan for light research, and paid plans add higher daily report limits, more projects and tracking. Monthly subscriptions come with a one-time 7-day free trial.
How accurate is Ubersuggest's search volume?
Treat it as an estimate. Every third-party SEO tool models search volume, and even Google describes Keyword Planner volume as a rounded 12-month average that changes with seasons and events. Use the numbers to compare keywords, not as a traffic promise.
Who owns Ubersuggest?
Ubersuggest is part of NP Digital, the performance marketing agency co-founded by Neil Patel. It used to live on Neil Patel's own website and now runs on its own domain.
Does Ubersuggest have an API?
No. Its pricing page says there are no API access plans at the moment. It does offer a Chrome extension, a WordPress plugin, a ChatGPT app and an MCP connection for AI tools.
