Who owns StreamYard?

According to Wikipedia, Hopin bought StreamYard in January 2021. In April 2024 Bending Spoons, a technology company based in Milan, agreed to buy StreamYard Top Corp, also known as Hopin. StreamYard's website now names Bending Spoons as its operator, and the product keeps its name.

Who is StreamYard for?

StreamYard suits marketing teams that run a regular live show, customer interviews, panels or webinars on YouTube. Guests need only a browser and a link. Essential, Core and Advanced are labelled for individuals only; companies are pointed to Business plans, quoted by StreamYard's sales team.

What does StreamYard do for YouTube live streams?

Going live on several platforms

StreamYard connects directly to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Twitch, Kick and Brightcove, and to any platform that accepts RTMP. Your computer sends one stream and StreamYard's servers deliver it everywhere. Essential streams to 2 destinations at once, Core to 3, Advanced to 8 and Business to 10. Multi-Aspect Ratio Streaming can send a horizontal stream to YouTube and a vertical one to TikTok or Instagram in the same session. Comments from every platform appear in one view.

Guests and branding

Core and higher show up to 10 people on screen, remove the StreamYard logo and add logos, overlays, backgrounds, intro and outro videos and custom layouts. Advanced allows 15 people backstage.

Recording and pre-recorded streams

Local recording saves a separate audio and video file for each person, so a weak connection does not spoil the footage. Recordings are 1080p, or 4K on Advanced, and the tracks open in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Core and higher record live streams of up to 10 hours. You can also air a pre-recorded video as a live stream: up to 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced.

Clips and webinars

AI clips turns streams and recordings into short clips with captions and your logo for Shorts and Reels, on Core and higher. On-Air is StreamYard's webinar product: a branded page with registration, reminder emails, an embeddable player and on-demand replays, while you multistream to social platforms. Advanced includes On-Air for 100 viewers per stream.

What do users say about StreamYard?

StreamYard is rated 4.8 out of 5 on G2 from about 300 reviews, and 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra from about 110 reviews. Reviewers most often praise how easy it is for hosts and non-technical guests, multistreaming and value for money.

The most common complaints are bugs such as frozen recordings, price changes and cost, slow support, and on-screen participant limits on lower plans. On Trustpilot, negative reviews focus on billing and cancelling.

When should you choose an alternative?

  • Webinars are your main lead source. Livestorm is built for registration, on-demand and automated webinars.
  • You mostly run calls and demos. Zoom covers meetings, with webinars as a separate product.
  • You publish edited videos, not live shows. Try a text-based editor such as Descript, or Loom for screen recordings.
