YouTube Studio is Google's free dashboard for running a YouTube channel. You upload and schedule videos, read analytics, test titles and thumbnails, manage comments and give your team access, all without paying. Every channel has it, on desktop and in the YouTube Studio app.

Who is YouTube Studio for?

Every business with a YouTube channel has it, because uploads and channel settings live there. It holds YouTube's own data on your channel, such as impressions, click-through rate, watch time and traffic sources. Paid tools such as vidIQ and TubeBuddy work alongside it. They add keyword data, competitor tracking and bulk editing, while uploads and settings stay in Studio.

What does YouTube Studio do for a business channel?

Analytics

Analytics splits into reach, engagement, audience and revenue. You see impressions, click-through rate, views, watch time, average view duration and the share of new, casual and regular viewers. A realtime report shows recent activity. Advanced Mode lets you compare performance and export data.

The Trends tab in Analytics shows what your audience searched for over the last 28 days. It also shows content gaps, where viewers find too few good videos, with a separate view for Shorts. A breakout videos card lists well-performing videos from similar creators.

YouTube began phasing out the Inspiration tab in August 2026. For ideas it now points to Ask Studio, an AI assistant on desktop. Ask Studio answers questions about your channel, suggests ideas, summarises comments and reviews drafts. It is not available to creators under 18 or to Made for Kids channels.

A/B testing for titles and thumbnails

On desktop you can test up to three titles, thumbnails or pairs of both on one long video. YouTube shows every viewer the version with the most watch time, not the highest click-through rate. Tests should finish within two weeks. You need advanced features, and Shorts, private videos and videos made for kids can't be tested. For the basics, see A/B testing.

Scheduling, comments and team access

You can schedule an upload for a date, time and time zone, or run it as a Premiere with a countdown. Premieres don't work for Shorts. The comments page holds risky comments for review, and you can add blocked words and moderators. Channel permissions let you invite colleagues or an agency as Manager, Editor, Subtitle Editor or Viewer. Limited versions hide revenue, and nobody needs your Google login.

How much does YouTube Studio cost?

Nothing. YouTube Studio has no paid tiers, and the app is free on Google Play and the App Store (checked on 1 November 2026). Some tools need verification. A/B testing needs advanced features, which a channel gets through channel history or ID or video verification.

What do users say about YouTube Studio?

G2 and Capterra have no listing for YouTube Studio, so the closest public ratings are the app stores. The app has 4.3 out of 5 on Google Play from about 2.36 million reviews and 4.1 on the US App Store from about 26,100 ratings. Reviewers like having views, subscribers and comments in one place on their phone.

The most common complaints are that the app does less than desktop. Reviewers name thumbnail testing and posts as missing on mobile. Others report delayed or mismatched numbers and slow loading.

When should you add another tool?

  • You want keyword data and competitor tracking. vidIQ and TubeBuddy add search volume, competitor tracking and optimisation scores on top of Studio.
  • You want to benchmark public channels. Social Blade tracks public subscriber and view history for channels you don't own.
  • YouTube is one of several networks. Later plans YouTube posts and Buffer schedules YouTube Shorts next to other social networks.
