Jira is Atlassian's project and work tracking tool. Teams plan and track work on boards, lists, timelines and calendars, with custom workflows, automation and Rovo AI. It is free for up to 10 users, and paid plans start at $9.70 per user per month on monthly billing.

Who is Jira for?

Atlassian positions Jira for engineering, IT, operations, design and marketing teams, and offers templates for business work such as marketing campaigns. It suits marketing, operations and product teams that work closely with developers, or that need detailed workflows, sprints and reports. Small teams with simple projects may find it more complex than they need.

What are Jira's main features?

Views and workflows

The same work can be shown as a backlog, a board, a list, a timeline or a calendar. You define the workflow each task follows, add custom fields and collect requests through forms. Templates cover projects from agile sprints to marketing campaigns.

Automation and Rovo AI

Automation rules handle routine steps such as reminders and status changes, with a monthly limit per plan. Rovo, Atlassian's AI, is included from the Standard plan. It searches across Jira, Confluence and connected apps, breaks work into tasks, reports on status and runs AI agents. Rovo can also create automations from a plain-language instruction.

Reporting and planning

Built-in reports include burndown charts and cycle time. Premium adds cross-team planning, capacity management, scenario modeling and dependency management across projects.

Integrations

Atlassian lists more than 3,000 integrations in its Marketplace. Atlassian also sells Jira together with Confluence, Loom and Rovo as the Teamwork Collection, and offers an MCP server for AI agents.

Jira is rated 4.3 out of 5 on G2 from more than 8,000 reviews at the time of checking. G2's review summary says users most often praise its ease of use once set up, flexibility for organizing projects, task tracking and the range of features and customization.

The most common complaints on G2 are a steep learning curve, a complex interface and processes, being overwhelming for simple projects, and slow performance on larger projects.
